As Rockland Park continues to grow, so does the number of exciting parks and playgrounds in this northwest Calgary community. As of Summer 2024, Rockland Park is home to two unique play structures and expansive green spaces — from the central pond and ridge line to natural pockets nestled throughout the neighbourhood.

One of the most popular destinations? Wizard’s Hideaway, located in Phase 3 on Royston Heath NW. This thoughtfully designed playground welcomes kids aged 2 to 12 to climb, bounce, swing, and play in an environment created for all ages and abilities.

Inclusive Outdoor Fun for All Ages

Designed with natural materials and sustainable features, Wizard’s Hideaway encourages imaginative and physical play that supports social, sensory, and motor skill development. Whether playing solo or with friends, kids can engage in a wide variety of activities.

  • Bounce

    o Spring Board
A large board balanced on three springs teaches kids about balance and movement. As they shift their weight, they’ll explore coordination and learn how to share space with others.

    o Pony
A modern take on a playground classic, this seesaw-style bouncer accommodates one or two riders. It’s great for toddlers with a parent, or for siblings and friends to enjoy together.

  • Swing and Sway

    o Swing Set
Featuring two classic swings and a bird’s nest swing, this section invites all ages to enjoy the sensation of soaring. The nest swing supports co-play or lying down, making it inclusive for younger tots or those with mobility differences.

    o Seesaw
Built for 2–4 riders, this piece helps children understand rhythm and teamwork, while accommodating different comfort and skill levels.

    o Spica 1
This spinning element is designed for older children (6–12). It challenges them to problem-solve and control speed as they take turns spinning alone or in small groups.

  • Climb

    o Track Ride Tower
Children can scale a rope net or ramp to reach a deck, where they take turns gliding down a zip-style track. Younger kids can join with adult support, making it a fun feature for a range of ages.

    o The Wizard’s Hideaway
This structure was specially designed for younger children (ages 2–5) with wide steps, double slides, and a built-in bench. It can support up to 11 kids at a time and fosters imaginative group play while encouraging confidence and turn-taking.

What's Next for Rockland Park Playgrounds?

There’s more on the way! Two additional playgrounds have already been built:

  • A natural play area for open-ended exploration
  • A climbing and balance park for slightly older children

And coming soon: Osprey Park, located along the ridge, is set to open soon. Plus, the Rockland Park HOA — The Lodge — will open in 2024 with its own play structure and recreation areas for all ages.
